Broadly conical, evergreen. Withstands wind well, including salt laden winds in Westland. Good Kiwifruit shelter where it is trimmed annually to 0.5m width. Suggested spacing 1.5 to 2.5m . Major timber tree in Japan. Less vigorous in colder drier South Island areas. 1 year old.

Collected from seed from the natural crossing of many different known female parent trees. Seed is collected from Proseed orchards established from 2007-2011. Topped @ maximum height 40cm.

P. euramericana x nigra. Narrowly columnar, deciduous. Branches short and at a steep angle, offering an alternative type of narrow crown to the old rust affected Lombardy poplar. Tolerates dry windy sites. Bright yellow autumn colour. Cuttings 40cm, Rooted topped @ 1m.

P. maximowiczii from Hokkaido x fastigiate P. nigra from Turkey (not Lombardy).Narow crown, very light branching smooth barked, good disease & possum resistance. Tolerates near coastal sites. Least vigorous of maxi-nigra crosses. Ideal where a healthy smaller growing densely foliaged tree required. Wood density 360 kg/m3. Cuttings 40cm, Rooted topped @ 1m.
