Betula pendula f. tristis

Silver birch with narrow form Ht 10-20m

Medium tree / Deciduous / Attractive autumn colours - yellow / Attractive flowers or catkins / Firewood / Erosion control / Shelter
Long weeping branches. The bark remains white to the ground longer than the usual form. Tough vigorous pioneering species. Yellow autumn colour can be spoilt by birch rust in some seasons. Yields a hard white timber.

Broadly conical, deciduous. Bark white, with horizontal marks retained to ground level into old age. Chalky white powder rubs off the bark. Bright yellow autumn colour. Vigorous and rust free.

Narrowly weeping, deciduous. Bark pure white and retained to ground level longer than B. pendula. Leaves larger than B. pendula. Not affected by rust and has bright yellow autumn colour. Highly recommended.

Monocalypt, generally free of insect pests. S.E.Australia. Tall rough barked ground durable with proven good sawing and drying properties. Very hard heavy, attractive timber. Grows well on hill country where temperatures do not go below -5C. Rainfall 800-2500mm, coppices, resprouts epicormics after fire. Recommend planting in early Spring after chance of frosts.

Medium sized tree with rough fibrous stringy bark, timber is red, most suited to above ground exterior uses. Forms a lignotuber. Recommend planting in early Spring after chance of frosts.
